+The watermelon has long stood as a powerful emblem of resistance, deeply intertwined with the struggle for freedom in Palestine. In the face of intense oppression, the Palestinian flag endured a three-decade ban by Israel in Gaza and the West Bank, from 1967 to 1993. Even the depiction of its colors—red, green, black, and white—was prohibited, yet Palestinian resilience persisted.
Despite the state's attempts to silence their voice, Palestinian resistance remained unyielding. In defiance of this suppression, the locally grown watermelon emerged as a potent symbol that sparks a movement of defiance.
